42nd Anniversary of Skating Show to Benefit the Jimmy FundAn Evening with Champions, September 29-30
CAMBRIDGE – An Evening with Champions will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30. The Saturday show will begin at 7 p.m., while the Sunday show will begin at 2 p.m. The shows will feature world-class skaters performing everything from triple axels to layback spins to support the Jimmy Fund. A silent auction will begin 30 minutes before each show, with a prize drawing after intermission. An Evening with Champions was founded in 1970 by former US champion John Misha Petkevich and fellow Harvard University classmate John Powers. Since 1970, it has been run entirely by Harvard University students, and has raised more than $2.6 million for the Jimmy Fund, which supports adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. A premier skating exhibition, the show has featured such talent as Olympian pair skaters Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig, Harvard student and skater Emily Hughes, world-renowned figure skating champion Michelle Kwan, and Olympic gold medalist Yuna Kim. In addition, numerous celebrated skaters of the past and the present will be in attendance for the fall 2012 show. Pediatric cancer patients from the Jimmy Fund Clinic will also have an opportunity to skate with the performers during the weekend of Evening with Champions. Tickets will be available from the Harvard Box Office in August. Group tickets are also available for purchase. An Evening with Champions will be held at Harvard's Bright Hockey Center, located at 79 North Harvard Street in Allston.
